Star Marianas Air to fly Saipan-Guam daily
Star Marianas Air will be providing airlift between Saipan and Guam daily beginning in June, offering much needed option and alternative for the said route.
The airline announced that it plans to begin non-stop Saipan-Guam flights, twice daily, starting June 1.
“We are very excited to begin offering direct service between Saipan and Guam, and look forward to providing an efficient inter-island transportation option,” Star Marianas Air president Shaun Christian said.
The Tinian-based commuter airline will use twin engine Piper Super-Chieftains to fly the route and will operate from the Commuter Terminal on Saipan and the Light Aircraft Commuter Facility on Guam.
Christian explained that Star Marianas Air’s flights aim to provide a new option for inter-island travelers and is not intended to compete with the existing service offered by United Express/Cape Air.
“United Express/Cape Air provides a much needed service by operating flights from the CNMI that connect with flights beyond Guam. What we are offering is an alternative service for inter-island travelers that primarily want to travel between the islands of Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and Guam,” Christian said.
As Star Marianas will not operate from the main terminals in Guam and Saipan’s international airports, it said that passengers can reduce their time spent at the airport by avoiding long security lines and customs processing times.
“We recognize that most travelers don’t want to spend any more time at the airport than they have to. They would prefer to be at their destination,” Christian said, “By utilizing smaller commuter aircraft and operating from commuter facilities, our goal is to minimize our customer’s “airport experience” and get them to their destinations quickly and safely.”
In addition to the new Saipan-Guam direct service, Star Marianas also announced that it will be adding a second daily passenger flight between Guam and Rota in the afternoon.
The company is also finalizing a schedule for daily cargo flights throughout the Mariana Islands and offering same day arrival options for cargo.
Star Marianas has a fleet of 11 aircraft, five of which are Piper Super-Chieftains and are six Piper Cherokee Sixes.
