Hopwood dominates; Kobler wins

Hopwood Junior High School reigned supreme in the 4x100m relay races, while Koblerville recorded three wins in the same event in the 2016 PSS/McDonald’s All Schools Track and Field Championships last week at the Hopwood field.
In the boys U13 age group, Hopwood’s Ian Maniago, Mark Esalan, Jhoey Noble, and Trey Aiken completed the one-loop course in 1:02.32 to beat the 1:06.51 of Dandan Middle School’s Mingkao Taimanao, Latrel Deleon Guerrero, Austyn McKinnon, and Jonathan Wolf. Agape Christian School’s Mac Guintu, Jodel Du, Bobby Bao, and Jason Huang rounded out the Top 3 after clocking in at 1:06.95.
The quartet of Jerlyn Castillo, Aiko and Nichiko Rasing and Therize Millare gave Hopwood a sweep in the U13 division as they timed in at 1:05.58 or about five seconds ahead of Agape. Elizabeth Xu, Shiying Wang, Xinyi You, and Saiya Wu ran for Agape and submitted a second-best 1:10.45 to edge San Antonio Middle School (1:10.89) for the silver medal. Alasha Pangelinan, Maymay Hong, Elaine Fernandez, and Kassandra Camacho were the runners for San Antonio.
In the U15 division, Hopwood also had a sweep with its boys team breaking the one-minute barrier after timing in at 56.70 seconds and its girls crew logging 1:06.08. K-Son Peter, Kirt Andon, Jerry Yugummang, and Tarrence Babauta joined forces in leading the Hilitais to another first place finish against Tinian Junior High School and Agape. Tinian’s Joshua and Jeremiah Hofschneider, John Dona, and Tyler Santos recorded 58.91 seconds) for the silver medal. Agape, which was represented by Guintu, Steven Li, Wang Kai Ping, and David Cai, had a faster time (58.50 seconds), but settled for the bronze after one of its runners committed an interference violation.
In the girls U15, Hopwood’s Kiki Mereh, Anverose Naanep, Rushelle Valino, and Toremy Diaz rounded out the course more than three minutes ahead of Dandan Middle School’s Britney Espinosa, Richelle Arriola, Mikayla Borja, and Jaime Pangelinan, who combined for 1:09.37. Agape’s Enyi Wang, Michelle Li, Shiying Wang, and Xinxi You finished third with a time of 1:10.72.
In other results, Koblerville prevailed in the boys and girls U12 and boys U9 age groups of the 4x100m event, while Marianas High School and Tinian High School split the top honors in the U18 division.
Jedidiah Hong, M.J. David, Aiden Norita, and Darier Quitugua handed Koblerville the victory in the boys U11 age group as the quartet registered 1:09.67 in the 4x100m relay and defeated four other teams. William S. Reyes Elijah Lisya, Jon Rat Shahadat, Marcus Pelisamen, and John Mark Anastacio came in at second (1:10:46), while Brilliant Star School’s Casey Chambers, Conall Hartig, Tristan Cano, and Moshe Sikkel placed third after submitting 1:17.41. Agape and Kagman Elementary School were the other participants in the relay and clocked in at 1:18.40 and 1:19.17, respectively.
In the girls U18, Bernadette Horey, Chloe Salvosa, Gabrielle Race, and Zari Nae Sapong ran away with the first place honors after recording 1:02.23, more than five seconds faster than the 1:07.33 of Tinian’s Renuka Shrestha, Charlene Danganan, Chelsea Ayuyu, and Kaye Lagunay. Agape’s Kitty Yu, Coookie Xu, Reanna Huang, and Rebecca Xu were ranked third after checking in at 1:08.95.
Tinian foiled an MHS sweep when the former’s Mike Cabulay, Ace Pangelinan, Jayron Epity, and Zach Hofschneider combined for 54.02 seconds and finished ahead of the Dolphins’ Terrence Belcher, Jerald Castillo, and Leowell Cristobal, who posted 55.28 seconds. Agape also finished third in the boys division with Teemo Wang, Enfeng Wang, David Cai, and Samuel Hu timing in at 55.50 seconds.
