BECQ collects more than 1K lbs of trash
More than 1,000 lbs of trash was collected by the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality and its volunteers during its Island Wide Cleanup last Friday.
The IWC was held as part of the Environmental Awareness Month celebrations last April and was deemed a huge success.
BECQ said they have collected roughly 1,100 lbs of trash that was removed from the beaches and road sides. The collected trash was properly disposed of.
BECQ thanked its 754 volunteers who participated in the event.
Another cleanup event will be held again on Saturday, May 7, when the BECQ Cleanup Brigade will be at it again picking up trash at Tank Beach starting at 8am.
“If you would like to volunteer your time to clean and beautify our island, please meet the BECQ representatives on Saturday at Tank Beach at 8 am. Volunteers will split into groups and clean until 10am and break for drinks and then continue, if needed,” BECQ said.
BECQ added that the outstanding brigade volunteers who participated in at least ten monthly cleanups will receive a brigade cap and those who participated in at least three cleanups will receive a brigade t-shirt this month.
“The BECQ is looking forward to a repeat success on Saturday, so join BECQ’s monthly cleanup brigade and “Pick It Up!” Let us work together for the health of our coral reefs and cleanliness of our beaches for everyone to enjoy,” the bureau said.
