Shirley’s Coffee Shop re-opens Garapan branch

Shirley’s Coffee Shop Garapan, at Century Hotel’s ground floor, re-opened last week with its regular customers greeted by a cozier and warmer ambiance, while still enjoying their favorite dishes.
Shirley’s Garapan’s grand opening was supposed to be on April 25 but they did a soft opening on April 22 because of the strong clamor from their patrons.
The project, part of the hotel’s remodeling for a fresher look, lasted for more than a month forcing management to have the Susupe branch—just across Mt. Carmel Cathedral—operating at 24 hours to accommodate its loyal patrons. Shirley’s Garapan began its renovation on March 16.
“This is part of Century Hotel general manager Ivan Quichocho’s plan to give the hotel a new look. Shirley’s is just a lessee here so we became part of the remodeling too,” said Shirley’s official Puy Macario. “This is just a slight modification.”
Macario added that it was Richard Lai, Shirley’s executive vice president and son of founder Shirley Lai, who thought of how the store would look like. Sandy Pallon was tapped as the contractor for the project.
“Richard is very much hands on and is part of the plan every step of the way. He wanted to maximize every space available that’s why the floor layout is much different from the previous set up,” said Macario.
He added Shirley’s Garapan now has 30 booth-like seats that can accommodate four people. The long table, located near the Tribe’s Bar entrance, remains for big groups and for customers with disabilities. “There are at least 10 to 12 seats added to the store, we maximized the space.”
The kitchen, where their cook’s whip up your favorite dishes, also became bigger with the utensils and other kitchenware being replaced by stainless steel implements for easy cleaning.
They also put up additional closed circuit television cameras and wireless CCTV’s for additional security for the customers.
Shirley’s Garapan underwent a major facelift, but what didn’t change is the taste of your favorite dishes—from famous Shirley’s fried rice and others like the half fried chicken to crispy pata (pork knuckles).
