As the National Park Service enters its 100th year under the U.S. Department of Interior, Secretary Sally Jewell is working on fresh and creative ways to connect a new, diverse generation of Americans to the great outdoors and all public lands to ensure that national, state and territory parks, public lands, and waters are relevant to all Americans in the next century.

The administration would like your support by embracing the opportunities to explore, learn, be inspired, or simply have fun at the American Memorial Park this week or historical sites in the Northern Mariana Islands and to better understand how NPS’ community-based recreation, conservation, and historic preservation programs positively impact our communities.

The following events will take place this week in celebration of the centennial and national park week:

1. Governor’s National Park Week Proclamation Signing on Wednesday, April 20 at 9:30am.

2. Film a Find Your Park Video: Record and share a video of you at your favorite park or historic site and tell viewers why it is special to you. Upload and post on facebook.com/nationalparkservice and share to the Office of the Press Secretary.

3. Capitol Campout Photo Contest – Pitch up a tent, embrace the great outdoors and submit your best campout photos via email for a chance to meet Governor Ralph DLG Torres and have your photo signed and hung in the halls of Capitol Hill.

4. Build Your Shelter Challenge: Calling all outdoor enthusiasts!
• Shelter must be made out of natural resources or recycled materials
• Can be as creative as possible but still functional
• Be built in an area where camping is allowed
• Camp area must be outdoors

All submissions must be sent to cnmiparkweek@gmail.com with full name and contact information by Sunday, April 24, 2016.

One photo contest winner and three Build Your Shelter winners will receive giveaways and get their photographs signed by the governor.
