Registered overseas Filipino voters on Saipan can cast their votes for the 2016 Philippine National Elections during the field voting to be held next week.

According to honorary consul to the Philippines Glicerio Arago, the field voting will be held from April 25 to 28 at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.

The four-day field voting will be open from 9am to 6pm.

“We encourage our kababayans to exercise their right to vote for the betterment of our future and the generations to come,” Arago said.

Arago said the Philippine Consulate General-Guam consul Mark Hamoy and Cristy Yap were deputized by the Philippine Commission on Election to conduct the field voting.

Hamoy is the Special Ballot Reception and Custody Group chair, while Yap is an SBRCG member.

PCG-Guam has in its custody the automated vote counting machine. The machine itself will not be brought to Saipan, instead, filled ballots will be brought back to Guam where the officers will be the one to feed it to the machine.

Voters will need to bring with them proper identification document such as valid IDs or their passport.

To ensure that they are qualified to vote, Filipinos are encouraged to check if their names are included in the Certified List of Overseas Voters (CLOV) for GUAM, which can be found in philippinesguam.org or in the COMELEC website http://www.comelec.gov.ph.

There are about 11,900 registered Filipino voters in the PCG-Guam’s jurisdiction which includes Guam, the CNMI, Republic of Palau, Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of Marshall Islands

In the CNMI, there are 5,768 registered voters which is even more than Guam’s 3,000-plus voters.

As field voting cannot be conducted on Tinian and Rota, their ballots have been mailed to the registered voters already, which they can submit until May 9 or the last day of the overseas absentee voting period and the actual Election Day in the Philippines.
