Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board of directors representative from Rota Albert Taitano was appointed as the board’s acting secretary.

During the board’s meeting last Friday, CUC board chair Adelina Roberto appointed Taitano to be the acting secretary following Chris Concepcion’s notice of resignation.

Concepcion, who was appointed and confirmed to the CUC board on March 2014, will be resigning effective April 15 due to his new position as the managing director of the Marianas Visitors Authority.

Taitano, on the other hand, has served the board for only a year so far. He was confirmed after being appointed in March last year.

Because an election for the board must be noticed as part of their agenda, Roberto can only appoint Taitano as acting secretary. The CUC board will hold an election for their next board meeting, which is set to be held on Rota next month.

According to Roberto, they have notified the governor regarding the vacancy in their board.

“It’s the governor who will replace him,” Roberto said, “They’re probably tossing out names.”

Roberto said Concepcion was a great member of the board.

“I wish the replacement is just as great as [Chris]. We need somebody we can work with,” Roberto said.

Gov. Ralph DLG Torres expressed in his earlier interview with Saipan Tribune that he will be looking into Concepcion’s replacement as well as re-appointing or replacing commissioners for the Commonwealth Public Utilities Commission.
