APRA HARBOR, Guam—After a six-month deployment in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS-39) will return back to U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), April 11 around 9 a.m. The ship’s return also marks an official homeport shift from Diego Garcia to NBG.

Emory S. Land is a forward-deployed expeditionary submarine tender returning from an extended deployment conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operations. The submarine tender moved its official homeport from Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia to Naval Base Guam as part of the Navy’s long-range plan to put its most advanced and capable units forward. Emory S. Land, along with fellow submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS-40), will support four fast-attack submarines in Guam and other submarines rotating through the region.

The Emory S. Land will arrive with a crew of about 350 officers and enlisted sailors and 150 civil service mariners that provide logistical support—including food, water and electricity—to submarine forces.
