Rollers Blue and the Ol’Aces recorded lopsided victories in the U18 division of the Inaugural Frank M. Diaz Memorial Youth League at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Rollers Blue dominated Rollers Red, 57-28, in last Tuesday’s lone match, while the Ol’Aces romped past the Tanapag Warriors, 65-28, in last Wednesday’s pairing.
The Ol’Aces were reinforced by former Marianas High School standout Kobee Mendoza, but the team did not need much of his help, as Edmond Borja and company were there to provide balance scoring for the winning squad.
Borja had a game-high 12 points, while Napu Atalig also finished in double figures with 10. Four other Ol’Aces players contributed at least 6 markers apiece, proving the team’s better scoring powers than the Warriors. No Warriors player broke into twin digits as the best that Donnie Fejeran could do was register 6 markers.
The Warriors were clearly no match to the Ol’Aces as shown in the first half scores that read 37-10. With the comfortable lead, Mendoza was contented on facilitating the Ol’Aces’ offense and letting his teammates do the scoring.
Meanwhile, Rollers Blue also proved to have enough manpower to produce points for the squad in their 29-point blowout win against Rollers Red.
Lefty Jun Alipio top-scored for Rollers Blue with his 16 markers, while Christian Arceo and Aaron Ogumoro logged 15 and 10, respectively. Three other Rollers Blue players combined for 14 points, which were more than the output of the leading scorer of Rollers Red—Tony Deleon Guerrero—who had 10 markers.
Alipio pumped in 10 of his total points in the first half to lift Rollers Blue to a 57-28 advantage. Rollers Blue never relinquished the double-digit lead, as Deleon Guerrero failed to get support from his teammates to overhaul the big deficit.
