MPU Blue tops Blue Marianas Futsal Cup

MP United Blue ruled the Blue Marianas Futsal Cup 2016 after shutting down sister team MPU Silver in the finals, 9-0, last Saturday at the TSL Sports Complex.
Edwin Kim led the easy title win after knocking in four goals. Michael Lee, Sunjoon Tenorio, Alex Park, Joshua Abragan, and Cody Leon added one goal apiece for MP United Blue, which advanced to the finals after placing first in the round-robin elimination.
MP United Silver, on the other hand, took the other finals ticket after edging Paire Football Club in a shootout, 2-0. Eun Syu Hahn and Dylan Cho scored the two goals for MP United Silver.
Vivid Blue of Japan also competed in the futsal tournament and won its last game in the elimination against MPU Silver, 6-4. The visiting squad went on to take the Team Fair Play award and its player Ayado Handa was among the individual awardees (team MVPs), joining Hahn, Paire’s Logan Mister, and Tenorio.
Tenorio took the Golden Glove award, too, while Kim earned the Golden Boot plum for tallying 11 goals. Go Sekiguchi of MPU Silver received the tournament MVP award.
Blue Marianas Futsal Cup 2016 started last Thurdday with four games. Paire won the opener, beating Vivid Blue, 8-4, while MPU Blue prevailed against MPU Silver in the second match, 13-2. The eventual champion went on to notch its second victory after blanking Vivid Blue, 12-2, while MPU Silver and Paire engaged in a 7-7 draw.
The tournament took a break last Friday and resumed action last Saturday with MPU Blue completing a sweep of the elimination following a 6-1 triumph over Paire. The win against Paire also gave MP United Blue the first finals berth, while the former remained in contention after Vivid Blue stunned MPU Silver in the last elimination round match.
