Shipment of new license plates set to arrive

The shipment of new vehicle license plates is arriving on Saipan either this Thursday or Friday, according to Department of Public Safety Bureau of Motor Vehicle director Juana Leon Guerrero.

“We are out of license plates since last year. We have the orders on the way,” Leon Guerrero told Saipan Tribune yesterday.

She said the arrival of the shipment has been delayed because of the backlog of cargo in Guam.

The license plates were procured from Oregon.

The BMV director said Ambyth Shipping confirmed to her yesterday that the license plates are arriving this Thursday or Friday.

Leon Guerrero said with the absence of new license plates, they have been giving temporary license plates to customers so there is no problem with them to operate vehicles.

She said they will make an announcement on how and when to get the official license plates to avoid crowding at BMV because there are a lot of customers out there with temporary license plates.

In the past, customers must turn in their temporary license plates along with their vehicle registration prior to obtaining their official license plates.
