The Rebels reached the century mark en route to a 100-74 rout of Best Sunshine International in the curtain-raiser in the 2016 Island-wide Men’s Basketball League last Saturday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Six Rebels players broke into double figures to demolish BSI. Ben Lisua led the Rebels’ attack with his 19 points, while Jason Palacios and Zi Reyes chipped in 14 apiece. Shane Deleon Guerrero added 12, while Juan Ogarto and Frank Mettao contributed 10 each.

Chris Esteves led BSI with his 25 markers, while Jonathan Santos and Colon Omar registered 18 and 13, respectively. BSI had only seven players available for the match and six suited up, while the Rebels had plenty offensive options with 12 of their standouts showing up for the lopsided game.

The Rebels led right at the get-go and pulled away as the match progressed. Palacios knocked in two triples and added a two-pointer for the Rebels’ 24-13 advantage.

The lead ballooned to 23 at the break, 54-31, as the rest of Palacios’ teammates joined the party, while BSI relied heavily on Estevez and Santos.

With a limited manpower, BSI allowed to many fastbreak plays and easy shots to the Rebels, who obliged by running and gunning. The lanky Lisua cherry-picked in the paint, connecting on both layups and undergoal stabs. He collected 8 points in the third quarter, which ended with Rebels still way ahead, 76-50.

The Rebels then played no let up in the fourth for their 26-point winning margin.

In the second game, CES Electronics pulled off a close 69-68 victory against the Kagman Risers.

Syl Teregeyo and Pete Lizama hit clutch baskets in CES’ nail-biter. Lizama scored the team’s last 3 points, while Teregeyo drilled two straight shots in the homestretch and had 8 of his 19 markers in the finals canto.

CES and Kagman had a back-and-forth match with the former hanging on to a 51-50 lead at the end of the third as the former nearly overhauled a 30-36 deficit at the beginning of the second half. Andrew Palino and Jesse Santos then kept Kagman in the game, as they traded baskets with CES, but Lizama and company had the last say in the end, using their experience to escape with the win.

Rebels 100—Lisua 19, Palacios 14, Reyes 14, Deleon Guerrero 12, Ogarto 10, Mettao 10, Teregeyo 8, Pangelinan 6.

BSI 74 — Esteves 25, Santos 18, Omar 13, Cabrera 8, Olopai 8, Oyola 6.

Scoring by quarters: 24-13, 54-31, 76-40, 100-74.
