The Saipan Baseball League Inc. is proud to announce the arrival of the much anticipated baseball tournament of the year—the 2016 Micronesian Baseball Classic (MBC).

A first in the region, the tournament is all set to go with national teams from Kosrae, Palau, Pohnpei, Guam and our very own CNMI national squad gearing up to compete in one of the biggest baseball tournaments this year. Visiting teams are expected to start arriving on June 21.

The inaugural MBC kicks off June 24 at the Francisco M. Palacios Ballfield, with the CNMI national team taking on one of the visiting teams at 6:30pm, following the opening ceremony. The host team’s opponent will be decided by a draw at the technical meeting to be held upon arrival of all teams. Tournament will culminate with a championship matchup on July 1.

The MBC will adopt a round-robin tournament format with the Top 4 teams advancing to the playoffs. Two games will be played starting on June 25. The first game starts at 10am, and the second will be contested at 2pm. Makeup games, if necessary, will be played in the evenings.

The Micronesian Baseball Classic Organizing Committee has started to meet to brainstorm on ideas and ensure the success of this event. The committee has discussed securing major corporate sponsors to assist with the costs associated with the tournament hosting. Further information about MBC will be released later.

Saipan Baseball League director and MBC tournament director Tony Rogolifoi is seeking for volunteers to assist with the preparation of the field and other logistic responsibilities. Interested parties are asked to contact Rogolifoi at 234-6672 or at 285-3966. (PR)
