Man beats up daughter, boyfriend in middle of road
A man lost his temper upon seeing his daughter together with his married boyfriend in a car, cut them off with his truck, and allegedly beat them up at the traffic signal light intersection of Chalan Pale Arnold Road and Quartermaster Road on midnight Sunday.
Noel Baitlon, 56, was arrested on charges of assault and battery, disturbing the peace, driving on highways laned for traffic, causing an accident, and reckless driving.
At a bail hearing yesterday, Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo imposed a $3,250 cash bail and set the preliminary hearing for April 7 at 9am.
Assistant public defender Michael Sato was appointed as counsel for Baitlon. Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
Police Detective Peter A. Aldan stated in his report that between 12am to 12:56am on Sunday, the male alleged victim arrived at a store in San Jose and offered a ride home to his girlfriend, who is a cashier.
The two agreed that the girlfriend would drive his car because she was practicing for her driving test next month.
As the two arrived at the girlfriend’s apartment in Chalan Lau Lau, they saw Baitlon pulling into the driveway of the apartment in his truck.
Since Baitlon barred the two to see each other, the two tried to avoid an argument so they drove off heading north to Chalan Pale Arnold.
Baitlon, however, saw them and followed in his truck. As she passed Chalan Pale Arnold/Quartermaster intersection, Baitlon sped north on the inner lane and abruptly turned right onto the outer lane and cut the car off with his truck.
The truck’s right rear tire and the bed’s right rear fender body clipped the car’s front left bumper. She stopped the car in the middle of the inner north-bound lane.
Baitlon partially pulled off the road, got down and through the driver’s window, thrice slapped his daughter and shouted profanities at her.
When the boyfriend opened the car’s door and put his right foot to step out, Baitlon started punching him in the face and yelling at him that he already talked to him to stop bothering his daughter.
The daughter tried to stop her father, Baitlon, from beating up her boyfriend. Baitlon, however, slammed the car’s passenger door on his daughter’s boyfriend’s right ankle.
Baitlon shouted at his daughter to walk home. He then got into his truck and drove away.
The boyfriend called 911 for police assistance. He was limping when a police officer arrived at the scene. He refused medical attention.
Police officers later proceeded to the residence of Baitlon, who allegedly admitted to police that he lost his temper and punched the boyfriend of his daughter.
Baitlon said he already talked to the boyfriend to stop checking on his daughter because he has a wife and children.
Baitlon was arrested and released the following day. On Wednesday night, he was served with an arrest warrant.
