Young Guns, Hoops notch wins in Mini-Rascals caging

U10’s Young Guns smoked the Little Rollers, 20-10, in the Rollers Basketball Club’s inaugural Mini-Rascals Youth Basketball Tournament U10 opener, while the U12 age division’s Hoops torched Young Guns, 31-15, in the second pairing.
U14’s Fast And Tough, meanwhile, had to forfeit to Hoops in the late feature. All games were played at the Garapan Basketball Court.
J.P. Cruz carried the torch for U10’s Young Guns with 8 points in the first half that helped then assert a 14-10 lead at the break. However, he was held to just a basket in the payoff period.
Rollers’ Corin Goron matched Cruz’s total of 10 points with a pair of early field goals in the second frame, while her teammate Taka Borja provided 4 points that locked it at 18-all in the late minutes.
In the end, however it was Young Guns’ Kyle Chua who saved the day with the big bucket that nabbed the win.
Young Guns’ John Granada pulled on a 7-point string off the tip in the U14 feature for a slim, 9-8, favor at intermission, but Hoops’ Angelo Factor took over the game in the second half with three strikes from behind the arc for 17 points in what turned out to be a runaway. Granada was held to just one of his team’s dismal 6-point effort late in the game.
The season continues on Tuesday with U10’s Little Rebels against the Young Guns at 5pm followed by U12’s Rascals versus the Young Guns at 5:40pm. Then the U14 is scheduled for 6:20pm between the Rollers and the Bombers.
Notably, the U10 and U12 playoffs start on Thursday.
