Semis cast in IT&E doubles tourney complete

The Final Four qualifiers in the IT&E Doubles and Mixed Doubles Badminton Competition 2016 were completed as elimination round games wrapped up over the weekend at the TSL Sports Complex.

In the mixed doubles A, siblings Jordan and Janelle Pangilinan and Daniel Macario and Hannah Choi bagged the two semis seats in Group A after taking the Top 2 spots in the pool. The Pangilinans were unbeaten in four games to lead Group A, while Choi and Macario had an even 2-2 record.

In Group B, the qualifiers were Deether Edralin and Jenne Savellano and Andreau Galvez and Malou Malasarte, as they ended up with 4-0 and 3-1 records, respectively. Edralin and Savellano will fave Choi and Macario in the semis round that will start next weekend, while Malasarte and Galvez will collide against the Pangilinan siblings in the other Final Four pairing.

In the mixed doubles B, the two semis matches will have Cris Hilario and Windy Fernandez battling Oh Im Bog and Rowena Sison and Nathan Guerrero and Nicole Malasarte challenging Jeff Riman and Loida Ito. Fernandez and Hilario ruled Group A with their 3-1 record, while Ito and Riman were ranked second after earning a 2-2 mark. Nicole and Guerrero topped Group B with their undefeated 4-0 slate, while Oh and Sison tallied a 3-1 record to place second.

In the women’s doubles A, Alma Ortega and Choi led the semis cast as they finished first in the five-team field with their 4-0 record. Completing the Final Four roster were Pangilinan and Savellano, Lanie Bartolome and Windy Fernandez, and the Malasartes.

The mother and daughter pair of Malou and Nicole will face Choi and Ortega as the Malasartes were ranked fourth with their 1-3 record. Savellano and Pangilinan took the No. 2 spot with their 3-1 mark to set a semis date against Fernandez and Bartolome, who wrapped up the elimination with a 2-2 slate.

Nicole is also in the semis in the women’s doubles B, as she and teammate Ito finished first in their group with a clean 4-0 record. Ortega and Fernandez were ranked second with their 3-1 mark, followed by Julie and Erica Jung (2-2) and Sison and Cheng Saturno (1-3).

In the men’s doubles AB, Jordan Pangilinan and Joel Ortega and Daniel Macario and Oh topped Groups A and B, respectively, to advance to the semis. Pangilinan and Ortega’s Final Four foes are Galvez and Rodwealth Espana, who finished second in Group B with their 3-1 mark. Oh and Macario also had a 3-1 record, but won the tiebreak and will meet Group A No.2 finishers Glenn Buultjens, who earned a 3-1 slate.

In the men’s doubles B, Patrick Jake Fieldad and Oh led the field with their 4-1 record, prevailing against Ortega and Jun Sik Kim in the tiebreak for first place. Espana and Ezekiel Macario and Hilario and Guerrero rounded out the semis cast after posting similar 3-2 marks.

In the men’s doubles C, A.J. Ortega and Patrick Fernandez are in the semis after ruling Group A with their 3-1 record. Rovin and Tae Ho Kim got the other Final Four ticket in Group A with their 2-2 mark, while Morgan and Jun Sik Kim (4-0) and Henry and Hajin Oh took the semis berths in Group B.
