Rollers Blue, Kagman Risers, and the Sonics coasted to wins in the U18 division games in the Inaugural Frank M. Diaz Memorial Youth League this week at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Rollers Blue played last Wednesday and whipped the Tanapag Warriors, 62-39, while the Kagman Risers pounded Rollers Red last Tuesday, 58-27, and the Sonics dominated Rollers White, 81-64, last Monday.
The Sonics set the double-digit winning margin after pulling away in the second quarter and limiting Rollers White to 4 points in that period. The Sonics turned a 21-17 advantage in the first canto to a 36-21 halftime edge after getting contributions from six different players. While the Sonics had a balance offense, only Dalton Dancoe scored all of Rollers White’s 4 markers in the second-frame meltdown.
The Sonics never relinquished the double-digit lead as they continued to shuffle their men and spread the wealth. Mike Espinosa paced the Sonics with his 17 points and seven of his teammates added at least 6 points apiece to lift the Jesse Tudela-coached squad to victory.
In the Rollers Blue-Tanapag Warriors tiff, the former leaned on Aaron Ogumoro’s 21 markers for the lopsided win. Jun Alipio backed up Ogumoro, chipping in 15, while Christian Arceo also finished in double figures with his 14.
Rollers Blue’s trio combined for 17 points in the opening canto to power their team to a 25-13 advantage. The Warriors failed to make enough headway in the last three quarters, allowing Rollers Blue to take the 27-point winning margin.
A.J. Evangelista led the Warriors’ losing cause with his 15 markers.
In last Tuesday’s game, Kagman held Rollers Red to 3 points in the first canto to secure the 31-point win.
Adelbert Quitugua hit the lone field goal for Rollers Red in the first frame, while five players teamed up for 12 points for Kagman.
Khalid Islam scored 4 of those 12 markers and added 8 in the second quarter to stretch Kagman’s lead to a baker’s dozen at the break, 26-13. Islam kept going in third period, firing 9 more to lead Kagman’s breakaway, 41-21. Dizon Magofna then finished things for Kagman, delivering 8 markers in the final canto.
