Tuesday League billiards enters semis phase
The Budweiser-Saipan Billiards Association Open 8-Ball Tuesday League enters the semifinals phase with the Jokers Bar & Grill-sponsored teams favored to get the two finals berth. The knockout phase is set tomorrow at Jokers Bar & Grill in Garapan.
Jokers Bar is assured of the crown as three of the four teams it sponsored finished 1-2-3 after 20 weeks of competition. The Jonny’s Titans, which prevented a Jokers sweep after the StraighBlackBall came in fifth, face a daunting task of clinching one of the two finals spots as they will take on top seed Jokers Voyagers.
The winners of the semis matches will battle for the Tuesday League crown next week with the losers clashing for third place.
The Voyagers compiled a league best 171-89 record, while the Titans tallied a 124-136 mark. Not even a 10-3 win over the Crazy 8 (102-158) last week could help the StraightBlackBall secure a playoff berth, as it finished only with a 120-140 card.
The Hustlers (136-124), which finished second will face fellow Jokers-backed squad Destroyers (127-133) in the other Final Four pairing.
The Voyagers, despite already assured of a semis spot, still went all out after posting a 8-5 decision over the Destroyers, while the Titans pulled off a 7-6 triumph against the Hustlers.
In the Thursday League, which has three weeks left, the top ranking remains a toss-up between the Jokers Homeboyz and National Alamo Car Rental. The Homeboyz and Alamo are 1-2 in the standings with the former enjoying a two-game lead at 128-93 against the latter’s 126-95.
Round two of their much-awaited match up will be on March 31. Alamo had a close win in their first meeting, 8-7, last Jan. 21.
The Jokers WildBoyz (124-97) and the Wild Bill’s Wild Wild West (112-109) are third and fourth but the Wild Bill’s Rack ‘N’ Roll, at 95-125, could still secure the last semis berth if it compiles enough wins and its sister team piles up losses.
Games last Thursday had the Alamo and Wild Wild West squeezing out similar 7-6 wins over the Rack ‘N’ Roll and the WildBoyz and the Homeboyz trouncing Jonny’s Team SCS (78-143), 8-5.
