Police arrested on Tuesday night in Garapan a 46-year-old man who allegedly threw a bicycle helmet at a woman and threatened to kill her with a pair of scissors and a wooden hammer’s handle during their argument in Garapan.

Police Detective Peter A. Aldan said the incident happened last March 8, but the suspect, Romeo B. Oliveros, fled the scene on his bicycle upon learning that the woman, who is his neighbor, called the police.

At a hearing yesterday, Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman allowed Oliveros to post $500 cash bail and set the preliminary hearing for March 23 at 9am.

Assistant attorney general Barbara Cepeda, counsel for the government, requested the court to keep the $5,250 cash bail that the court had earlier imposed, saying the defendant poses danger to the community.

Assistant public defender Michael Sato was appointed as counsel for Oliveros.

Aldan said investigation showed that on March 8 at 11am, a landlord asked Oliveros to remove his old and falling apart table from the front of the barracks-type house.

When the landlord left, Oliveros stepped outside his room and told the neighbor that she was the only one complaining about his table.

During their argument, Oliveros allegedly threw his bicycle helmet at the woman, hitting her on the right ankle.

Oliveros punched the victim, but she managed to avoid being hit and pushed him away.

Oliveros allegedly picked up a pair of scissors and a wooden handle of a hammer. He pointed the scissors at the victim’s neck less than a foot away and shouted that he’s going to kill her.

The victim ran into her room and called the police. The defendant then left the area aboard his bicycle.

Police served the arrest warrant on Oliveros on Tuesday night.
