Singers, bands invited to NMC’s Charter Day competitions

The Northern Marianas College Charter Day Planning Committee is inviting individuals or groups who are interested in competing for Marianas Idol and the Battle of the Bands competitions to sign up for these events.

The Marianas Idol competition showcases the CNMI’s local singers while the Battle of the Bands allows local bands from different musical genres to compete.

The Northern Marianas College Charter Day will be a two-day celebration that will take place on Friday, April 8, 2016, from 4pm to 9pm and Saturday, April 9, 2016, from 9am to 4pm at NMC’s South Field at the As Terlaje campus.

“We’ll be showcasing various programs, delicious food and thirst quenching drinks from many of the local vendors, and we will be featuring great entertainment,” said Greg Sablan, Charter Day Planning Committee chair.

Those interested in competing in any of the competitions can pick up an application form from Cassandra Deleon Guerrero at NMC’s Building K, or can download application forms at www.marianas.edu. There is no application fee for any of the competitions.

Applications for the competitions are due Friday, April 1, 2016 by 4pm. The auditions for the Marianas Idol singing competition and the Battle of the Bands will be on April 6, 2016 the venue for the auditions will be announced at a later time.

For the Battle of the Bands, groups are required to bring their own equipment. In addition to inviting participants for the competitions, the Charter Day Planning Committee is also inviting agencies, businesses, clubs and other civic organizations to participate by purchasing booth space for the following categories: food/drink, game booths, retail (arts and crafts, toys etc.), and information.

The deadline to submit applications for booth spaces is on Friday, April 1, 2016. Booth space is limited so applications should be submitted as soon the deadline is announced. The booth fee is $100 for NMC clubs and nonprofit organizations and $250 for commercial vendors.
