McFun Run raises over $5K

The 2016 Rotary McFun Run raised more than $5,700 with the money collected going directly to the Rotary Club Saipan’s funds for its various services and projects in the community.

Rotary president Curtis Dancoe made the announcement in their meeting yesterday at Hyatt Regency Saipan’s Giovanni’s restaurant.

“It was a great turnout, a great fundraising program, and a healthy way of doing it. We thanked all the individuals and businesses that participated, and all the volunteers who helped us organize the event,” said Dancoe.

Rotary Saipan then gave out some certificates to several businesses and groups that supported them in the second staging of the fun run.

T Galleria, First Hawaiian Bank, MARPAC, Micronesian Brokers, Inc., Pacific Islands Club, Maeda Pacific Corp., SP Dancoe & Associates, Hyatt, Best Sunshine International, Ltd., Armatech, and the United Filipino Organization are some of the companies and groups that were given certificates.

Keith Longuski and Mamiko Berger, who are both familiar faces in the local running scene, ruled the men’s and women’s 10-kilometer race from the Carolinian Utt in Garapan to Oleai Beach Bar and back with times of 34:40 and 37:13, respectively.

Agape Christian School’s Hao Yu Chen topped the men’s 5K event with a time of 18:31 to break the 20:05 set by Longuski last year, while Noriko Jim shattered her own mark of 23:48 last year by logging 21:09 to clinch the women’s crown in the same distance.

Angel Marie Tan, Stephanie Moline, Pipit Ball, Gary Bandoja, Steven Pixley, and Jane Stewart are the age group finishers in the 5K, while Chang Whan Jang, Lorie Hutchison, Conatsu Kaga, Caleb Wang, Charlie Sendin, and Rev. Fr. James Balajadia duplicated their feat in the 10K.

Almost 300 joined last month’s race to eclipse the 196 tally of 2015. McDonald’s Saipan and Rotary Club of Saipan jointly organized the event.
