Rotarians share trip to district confab in Japan

Three members of the Rotary Club of Saipan shared their experiences during their recent trip to the Rotary District Conference in Japan during the group’s weekly meeting yesterday at the Hyatt Regency Saipan.
Rotarians Ken Kato, Ivan Ilmov, and Norbert Sablan attended the Rotary Club International District Conference held in Tokyo, Japan last Feb. 23 and 24.
Kato talked about the hospitality and special treatment they received from the host Rotarians.
In particular, he mentioned a traditional fire ritual ceremony that signifies cleansing of negative energies and bad vibes for individuals. He believes a fellow Rotarian from Japan arranged the fire ritual ceremony especially for them.
Sablan spoke about the overall district conference. The two-day conference allowed them to meet many of their Rotarian counterparts from Japan as more than 2,000 members attended.
“Rotary Club of Saipan is part of a nine-club composition called Pacific Basin Group. Guam has five clubs, Saipan has one, Chuuk one, Pohnpei has one, and one club in Palau,” said Sablan, who added that Japan by itself has 91 Rotary clubs.
“Once a year, the Rotary District conference is held to allow Rotarians from different areas to meet for the purpose of fellowship, for sharing successes and challenges, and for providing and offering assistance to each other if needed,” he further explained.
Ilmov also added some details of what transpired during the two-day district conference.
