Ogumoro out as DCCA secretary
In what his administration calls the “final” reorganization of his Cabinet, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres has accepted the courtesy resignation of Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Laura Ogumoro.
“In light of your service and contributions, it is with a heavy heart and sincere gratitude that we accept your resignation effective March 21, 2016,” said Torres in a letter to Ogumoro.
“You have dutifully taken charge of one of the CNMI’s most vital departments. In caring for our people—from our promising youth to our beloved man’amko—and through the assistance you have provided to those among us who need a helping hand, you have made a beneficial impact to the lives of many. For that, we thank you.”
Torres, in his statement yesterday, said an announcement on a new DCCA secretary is forthcoming.
The move to replace Ogumoro comes about two weeks after Ogumoro issued a memo of “proposed termination” to Office on Aging director Walter Manglona, who has said on a social media account that “it was not” Torres or Lt. Gov. Victor Hocog who initiated his proposed termination, and that it was Ogumoro.
Since that time, the Torres administration has said they would be delving into the matter accordingly and that the Aging Office would be preparing “findings for [Torres’] review” on his return from a trip in Washington, D.C.
Torres met with Manglona at around 1:30pm in the Governor’s Office yesterday, on his second day back from the trip,
The Torres administration called this the “final” move to reorganize the Cabinet following the untimely passing of late Gov. Eloy S. Inos last December. Other moves included the recasting of Department of Public Lands secretary Pete A. Tenorio into a senior policy advisor and accepting the courtesy resignations of Veterans Affairs Office director Joseph Palacios, among others.
