Manglona wants update on ‘delayed’ Rota dialysis center
Sen. Paul Manglona (Ind-Rota) is asking the head of the local hospital for updated information on Rota’s dialysis center, a project the senator calls long overdue and a delay that has shifted costs to Rota patients who have to seek treatment on Saipan.
“The Rota hemodialysis center has yet to be operable since its anticipated date on Marc 2009, several years ago,” Manglona writes in a Feb. 16 letter to Esther Muna, chief executive officer of the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation.
“It is important that we do not further delay this long overdue project as the government has spent almost $1.5 million in construction to have its own dialysis center for persons needing dialysis three times a week,” Manglona adds.
Manglona goes on to ask for updated assessment and recommendations on the professional staff and personnel needed to operate the center, adding that a CHC nephrologist visited the facility in 2012 to make an assessment.
Manglona also pointed to the several Rota patients currently undergoing dialysis treatment at the dialysis center on Saipan. These patients, he said, have left behind their families on Rota for several years now, while carrying a financial burden.
Manglona, in closing his letter, urged that Muna’s office form a working group of professionals to plan for the future of the Rota center so they can “move forward” with it.
