Four of the NMI’s junior high students were hailed as “superiors” after performing and competing in the Junior International Thespian Society tilt in Denison, Texas last week. The CNMI team also received the “Made the Stage” accolade, the highest performance honor in their category and a first for the CNMI.

Dan Dan Middle School’s Jonathan Wolf, Hopwood Junior High School’s Bonnie Gios Sangana, and San Antonio Middle School’s Lovely Mariana and Nehemiah Fernandez represented the islands in the weeklong tilt where they earned individual honors.

According to Harold Easton, the Thespians Western Pacific Islands chapter director, the students were invited to the first highly competitive competition workshop, which only a limited number of students attend.

All of the student competitors received super ratings at the end of the competition for their respective performances.

The tandem of Mariana and Fernandez were asked to perform their Duet in the National Individual Events Showcase during the competition as well.

“The team did a great job on stage and represented us all in the best possible way with an awesome performance,” Easton said.

The students were coached by Marilyn Mendoza, Maria Mettao, and Kristine Wolf.

Wolf, for her part, said that the performances left them in “awe,” She added, “We could not get any more proud.”
