Small craft, high surf advisories until Wednesday
Small craft and high surf advisories remain in effect until 6am on Wednesday, according to the CNMI Emergency Operations Center.
Acting governor Victor B. Hocog is advising the general public and inexperience mariners—especially those operating smaller vessels—to avoid navigating in these conditions and take extra precautionary measures on entering and leaving harbor and inlets. He said the public should void venturing into the water along exposed reefs and beaches especially those facing east as rip currents will be life threatening.
Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center, the east swell will produce hazardous surf along east facing reefs for a few days.
East winds of 20 kt and combined seas of 8 to 10 feet will produce hazardous conditions Sunday for operators of small craft.
Winds will diminish slightly Sunday night, but will still contribute to hazardous conditions over the next few days. The highest seas are expected mainly east of the islands. Expect hazardous surf of 10 to 12 feet along east facing reefs Sunday through mid-week.
