TINIAN—Tinian Mayor Joey P. San Nicolas said that they are already thinking of ways to address the issue on transportation, especially when two more resort hotels open in the future.
Alter City Group is building its Plumeria Resort in Puntan Diablo cove. Bridge Investment, another investor, is developing 1,800 square meters of Kammer Beach into the $150-million Tinian Ocean View Resort.
“We’re looking forward for these investors and the opportunities they would bring to the island of Tinian. We’re also discussing ways on how to address the issue of transportation. There would be a lot of activity here especially when construction starts,” said San Nicolas, during a brief break in festivities of the Annual Tinian Hot Pepper Festival last Sunday.
San Nicolas said investors also plan on how to get their clients from Saipan to Tinian, especially if there are big events like the Pika Festival.
“We’re trying to get more charter flights. At the same time Star Marianas offers reduced rates on their flights, we are really thankful for that. Reduced airfare costs would attract more tourists to go to Tinian,” he added.
“Investors have also plans to have a ferry or other modes of transportation from Saipan to Tinian. And we’re looking forward to that.”
He is also calling on rental car businesses to also look into increasing the number of their vehicles once tourist flow increases in the coming years. Cars over the weekend were all rented out due to the Pika Festival and the arrival of the U.S. military for the planned Tinian Divert Airfield.
“It has been a busy weekend with the military also here. I learned that all cars are rented and we have to also look into that in the coming years,” San Nicolas said.
“One way to avoid the shortage of means of transportation is for car rental companies to start planning in increasing their fleet of vehicles. It’s time for them to study to increase the number of cars. It will help us in the future,” San Nicolas ended.
The next big event on Tinian is the San Jose Fiesta in the first week of May.
