Lions Club eyes repair of more bus stops
The Saipan Unity Marianas Lions Club is looking to repair and repaint more bus stops on the island, especially those damaged by Typhoon Soudelor last year. The Lions Club has just finished a two-day renovation of several bus shelters in Tanapag last week.
Lions Club board of director Ruth Torrecampo said they will next move to San Antonio village and then will try to locate more bus stops that need repairs and repainting.
“The [project] was implemented through careful planning and members motivation, which were the two essential tools in the renovation and repainting of the bus stops, and other services that the Saipan Unity could offer to the people of the CNMI in general,” said Torrecampo.
The club’s administrative funds were used to buy the materials and other supplies for the repair and repainting job, while Sherwin Williams and YCO Hardware donated the buckets of paint.
Club officers and members begin repair work on the two Tanapag bus shelters on Feb. 2 and 4 and completed the repainting on Feb. 6.
Lions Club first vice president Lyn de la Cruz and membership director Joe Digno supervised the repair, while president James Galvez and secretary Noemi Catigan led the repainting.
Former Lions Club president Saturnino Banting, second vice president Willy Barbo, treasurer Alice Barbo, and board of directors Sancho Escober, Argie Buensalido, and Torrecampo were also present in the repair and repainting of both bus shelters.
Torrecampo said the students and residents of Tanapag village could now again use the bus stops as shade against the heat of the sun or to avoid getting wet when it rains.
“They can also be used as a shelter for their safety without fear of any falling debris while waiting for their rides,” she added.
