Man arrested for allegedly raping 18-year-old in jungle
A 56-year-old retired Commonwealth Utilities Corp. power plant operator was arrested on Tuesday afternoon in Dandan for allegedly raping an 18-year-old student in a jungle area at the Saipan airport.
Police served an arrest warrant to John Santos Aldan for sexual assault in the first degree, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
Aldan is currently a maintenance worker at a private company.
At a hearing Wednesday, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho retained the $100,000 cash bail that was originally set by Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio.
Preliminary hearing will be on Feb. 16 at 1:30pm.
Assistant public defender Tillman Clark was appointed as counsel for the defendant. Assistant attorney general Shannon Foley appeared for the government.
Police Detective Therese S. Kintoki stated in her report that a police officer responded to Children’s Park in Dandan on Monday afternoon after a woman reported that her 18-year-old daughter was raped.
The alleged victim told police that Aldan picked her up from school that day at 5:30pm. Instead of taking the usual route through Finasisu and As Lito roads, Aldan drove her to a jungle area by the ARFF building at the Francisco C. Ada-Saipan International Airport.
The teenager said she struggled but Aldan grabbed her neck and raped her inside his red Toyota T 100 pickup truck.
She later told her mother about the incident. Her mother then called the police.
The teenager disclosed that last January, Aldan also brought her to the same jungle area, but he did not touch her after seeing her texting her mother.
