Whispering Palms School is proud to announce their 2016 school-wide spelling bee champion: 7th grader, Samantha Liske-Clark.

Sam, as her friends call her, will be traveling to Guam in early March for the Guam Regional Spelling Bee Competition. Once there, she will be competing against 1st-8th grade students from across the CNMI and Guam.

Last year she was awarded 4th place overall in the event, out of around 54 participants. This year she hopes to take first place and then travel to Washington, D.C. for the national competition.

In an interview, Sam said she “tries to practice at least 40 minutes every day.” She can often be seen at school studying diligently in her free time at lunch and recess. “Guam was scary and a lot of pressure, but it was fun too,” she commented. “Next year will be my last year to compete.” When asked what the hardest word was that she ever had to spell, Sam responded, “The hardest word I can remember practicing for was ‘weissnichtwo.’” Everyone at Whispering Palms School is very proud of Sam and wishes the best for her when she travels to Guam in hopes of becoming the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee Champion.
