Non-profit groups donate footwear to NAP

Non-profit organizations donated hundreds of boxes of footwear to the The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs’ Nutrition Assistance Program that will be given away to needy families that are under their care and to those affected by Typhoon Soudelor.
Marianas Young Professionals, Sons of Saipan, and United 4 Saipan gave away 2,500 pairs of flip-flops and sandals.
MY Pro vice president Nola Hix said the donation was in collaboration with A1 Shoes of Guam. More boxes are still in the Triple B Forwarders warehouse in Lower Base and will be delivered to NAP in the coming days.
My Pro treasurer Nikki Villagomez and U4S founder Jenny Hegland joined Hix in turning over 700 pairs to NAP administrator Walter Macaranas and retail and redemption officer Elizabeth Marie Palacios Olouachel.
“The footwear comes in a variety of sizes for male and female. There are for kids and adults. We will let NAP decide how to distribute it to the families. They can spread it to everyone and give a number of pairs to each household,” said Hix.
Macaranas said one way of distributing the footwear is to hand it to those who will get their NAP food stamps.
“What we plan to do to distribute these is to set up a tent or another spot here at the NAP office where we hand over the footwear as they receive their benefits. They could try it on to see if the size fits them,” said Macaranas.
DCCA, which is the lead agency of NAP, is thankful for the donation given by the non-profit groups.
“In behalf of the DCCA secretary, I would like to express our appreciation for their donation of slippers that would also benefit the NAP recipients. This is one of the many worthy and noble efforts these groups do in continuing to help the families in need,” said Macaranas.
“We thank them for considering DCCA-NAP as a partner in this effort,” he added.
