The board of directors of the Commonwealth Development Authority has a new chairman.

Ignacio Perez, one of the representatives from Tinian, was elected by the board during a meeting last Friday in Tinian.

Perez replaces Rota representative Diego Songao for the chairmanship. Songao now serves as the vice chair for the board.

Director Ignacio Kiyoshi told Saipan Tribune that the majority of the board wanted to change the chairmanship this year.

The CDA board, pursuant to their by-laws, decides every two years whether to retain or change their chairmanship.

Kiyoshi made the motion to nominate Perez to the position, who was eventually elected by the majority.

Songao, for his part, told Saipan Tribune that he has already notified the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. about the change of leadership in the CDA board.

In a letter to CUC chair Adelina Roberto, Songao noted Public Law 18-17, Article 3, Section 8131 which states that one member of the CUC board shall be the CDA board chair.

As new chair, Perez will now seat at the CUC Board of Directors.

“At this juncture, I would like to extend my appreciation to my colleagues, the CUC Board and the management and staff for the confidence and trust accorded to me during my tenure. My experience as a board member of CUC had given me a good insight of what our utility agency is all about; the hard work and tolerance that everybody has to endure in the performance of their work. I salute everyone for a job well done,” Songao said.
