Danny Jackson recognized for Chamorro preservation efforts

Sen. James V. Espaldon recently recognized Danny H. “Pagat” Jackson through Legislative Resolution No. 263-33 for his tireless efforts to promote, preserve, and sustain the Chamorro culture within the community.
Jackson is currently serving in his second term as I Maga’lahi of I Nasion Chamoru. Jackson has continuously worked with members of I Nasion Chamoru to ensure that all efforts are made to sustain the Chamorro culture by advocating for landless Chamorros.
He has been a staunch supporter of programs administered by the Chamorro Land Trust and the Ancestral Land Commission that have leased lands to Chamorros and have returned ancestral properties back to their rightful heirs.
Espaldon stated during the presentation that efforts by Jackson and other Chamorro advocates are essential in the community as the island continues to experience cultural diversity. “Guam continues to see an influx of people from all corners of the Pacific. And while people come to Guam and settle in making this their new home, we need to continue to ensure that the beauty and richness of the Chamorro people and their culture is not lost. Individuals, like Danny, who are passionate about cultural preservation are key to the survival of the cultural identity of the Chamorros,” said Espaldon.
Jackson was one of many people who also fought to protect I Sengsong Pagat from being included in any plans for the Guam military buildup. The resolution presentation took place at Espaldon’s office last Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016. Present for the presentation were Espaldon, Jackson, and Jackson’s wife Josephine C. Jackson. Also present were members of I Nasion Chamoru including Joaquin Rivera, Francisco R. Hernandez, and Catherine F. McCollum.
