16 teams confirmed for Human Duck Race

The Pacific Islands Club Race Around the River (also known as the Human Duck Race) will kick off this year’s Duck Race for Cancer this Saturday at PIC at 6pm

As of press time, there were 16 teams confirmed for this year’s race. “It is always great to see past participants taking to the waters of the PIC Lazy River, but this year we have a new flock of contestants!” said race director Glenn Policare.

Returning to the flowing waters of San Antonio will be the likes of DFS, the Saipan Swim Club, Northern Marianas College, Island Apparel, and Triple J Motors.

The trend this year looks to be first-timers. Island Training Solutions, Paradise Dental Clinic, Marianas Medical Center, Bridge Capital, and Kanoa Resort Saipan will all be sending swimmers to the race for the very first time.

“This year’s race will have a bit of a twist,” said Policare. “In year’s past, there has only been on representative per organization. We tried to level out the playing field this year by inviting three participants per team.”

The relay will have each of the swimmers make their way around part of the lazy river. The first swimmer will swim to their partner and pass off their duck hat to the second leg of the race. The second swimmer will pass their duck hat and inflatable to the anchor. The final swimmer, adorned with a duck beak, hat and inflatable will make their way to the finish line.

Sixteen teams have confirmed, but there are 24 available slots. “It is easy to enter,” said Policare. “Just fill out the form, sign the waiver and get ready to swim!” The entry fee is only $50. First prize will be three interchangeable PIC Corporate membership cards along with their name etched into the perpetual trophy.

Following the Human Duck Race, PIC will then launch 2,500 rubber ducks into the Lazy River. PIC staffers are still out selling ducks to the community at large.

Rubber ducks for the duck race are $5. Prizes for the rubber duck race is $2,500 for first place, $300 for second place, $200 for third place, and $50 for fourth place.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Commonwealth Cancer Association.
