Two former judges in Japan and a lawyer, who are all frequent visitors of Saipan, toured the Judicial Complex in Susupe yesterday.

“I am interested [about] Saipan and the Northern Marianas’ justice system and history,” said Takashi Kamura, who is a former judge and now a long-time practicing private lawyer in Tokyo.

Kamura said he likes traveling to study the history of every region in the world.

It is his sixth visit to Saipan. His last visit was four years ago, in which at that time he was fortunate to watch high school students competing in a mock trial.

Kamura said he wants to watch the mock trial again, but his group has to go back to Japan last night. The group arrived on Saturday.

Kamura was with former judge and now practicing private attorney Kazunobu Takai and attorney Yukiko Shimizu.

Takai became a member of the Upper House or senator from 1989 to 1994. Shimizu is currently running a law firm in Tokyo composed of all female lawyers.

Kamura also tagged along his law firm’s two employees.

Kamura said it’s Takai’s fifth visit to Saipan, while it’s Shimizu’s fourth.

Superior Court Associate Judge David Wiseman’s law clerk, Conrad Ohashi, and deputy clerk, Patrick Diaz, guided the group’s tour of the House of Justice’s facilities.
