After months of studying the college’s organizational structure, Northern Marianas College president Sharon Y. Hart is now ready to reinstate the chief financial administrative officer position which she earlier dissolved when she first initiated some changes in the organization’s staffing.

Hart reported Thursday that management is now ready to hire a new CFAO and the announcement is expected to come this week.

Prior to the Thursday’s board meeting, Hart told Saipan Tribune that NMC is working on some “restructuring” possibly within the organization, but she then refused to elaborate when pressed pending the management’s final decision.

During Thursday’s board meeting, the president admitted that NMC has been working hard on reinstating the CFAO position.

The accreditation commission placed NMC on continued show-cause and cited three remaining deficiencies and two new supplemental concerns that need to be addressed by the institution.

Majority of these unresolved concerns are related to financial planning and stability in the college as the team recommended that NMC integrates financial planning with institutional planning and the recruitment of a permanent CFAO to ensure the integral financial control at the institution.

Because of these concerns, the Board of Regents then immediately took action and reinstated the CFAO position but which was never filled right away as a result of the “request” made by Hart.

Prior to the commission’s decision in February, Hart restructured some positions, including the creation of dean of administration which oversees function such as fiscal and budget office that resulted in the dissolution of CFAO post. The fiscal year budget of the college was also cited as factor that compelled NMC to leave some positions vacant.

Hart reported that since the February commission report, NMC has made great progress in addressing the institution’s financial concerns.
