Komgish Tannakan, a 36-year-old man accused of beating up his girlfriend and threatening to pour laundry soap in her mouth, entered a guilty plea yesterday and was sentenced to one day in prison.

Tannakan signed a plea deal with the government and pleaded guilty to the offenses of assault and battery and interfering with a domestic violence report.

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho accepted Tannakan’s guilty plea and the agreement based on defendant’s lack of prior criminal conviction or arrest and that the victim wants contact with him and does not want him to go to jail.

Tannakan and the victim also informed the court that they are preparing to get married.

Camacho sentenced Tannakan to one-year imprisonment, all suspended except one day.

The defendant was given credit for one day. It means that he will no longer serve more prison time.

Tannakan was placed on one year of supervised probation and required to pay a $200 fine, $25 court costs, and $100 probation fee.

The defendant was ordered to complete counseling recommended by the Community Guidance Center or Office of the Adult Probation. He is prohibited from consuming any alcoholic beverages or controlled substances during the probationary period.

According to the factual basis of the plea agreement, Tannakan slapped and kicked his girlfriend at their residence in San Antonio on Nov. 3, 2015.

When the girlfriend tried to call police, he grabbed the phone away from her, preventing her from calling for assistance. She refused medical assistance.

As part of the plea deal, assistant attorney general Barbara Cepeda moved to dismiss the remaining charges of three counts of child neglect, one count of assault and battery, and one count of disturbing the peace. The judge granted the motion.

Attorney Joe Hill served as counsel for Tannakan.

Police said that officers responded to AJ Poker in Afetnas at 1:18am last Nov. 4 after the victim called for help. When the officers arrived, the victim was in the cashier’s booth, crying.

Tannakan was standing at the booth’s window.

The victim told police that earlier that night, Tannakan slapped her in the face and threatened to kill her. She said the defendant got a cup full of powdered laundry detergent, grabbed her by the mouth, and threatened to pour the soap in her mouth to kill her.

She alleged that Tannakan grabbed her by the hair, dragged her for about 15 feet, and kicked her against the wall.

The victim said Tannakan later brought her and their three minor children to AJ Poker so he could play poker, leaving the children in the car.

At AJ Poker, the victim later went to the cashier’s booth, where she tried to call police assistance, but Tannakan came and pulled the phone away from her.

A security guard came and told the victim to go inside the booth.
