First application in for junket ops

The Commonwealth Casino Commission has received its first application for junket operations for the Saipan casino, according to executive director Edward C Deleon Guerrero.

Guerrero said the application came “from a local company.” “We anticipate to receive more.”

Two more separate applicants have expressed interest but have not paid the necessary fees yet.

The commission is expecting to receive applications from mainland China and working to translate their applications to Chinese, according to Guerrero.

These junket operators are expected to bring high rollers to gamble at the Saipan casino.

Applications for junket license have been finalized and released to Best Sunshine International, Ltd., the owners of the Saipan casino, and other parties, sometime last December.

In an earlier interview, Guerrero said unlike in Macau gaming—where junket operators “take over” casino VIP rooms—junket operators on island would be barred from doing that. “The junket operator cannot take over a VIP room,” he said, “It would have to be Best Sunshine and Best Sunshine’s approved and licensed dealers and pit boss that are operating the casino.”

“We do not allow any outside entity to run the casino, or the VIP room, other than the licensee,” added Guerrero.
