Tourist injured during robbery at Tank Beach
A 62-year-old female tourist was injured when a robber grabbed her purse while she and her family were sightseeing at Tank Beach in Kagman on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim, a Chinese, was treated at the scene by responding medics for minor injuries to the left hand and left knee. She refused to be transported to the hospital.
Stolen from the victim was a purse that contained 150 Yuan, $400 cash, a red HTC cellular phone, and a hotel room key.
According to Crime Stoppers Program coordinator Jason Tarkong, the suspect was described as a male, no shirt on at that time, dark skinned, about 5’2” to 5’4” tall, and with dark shoulder length hair.
Tarkong said the suspect fled aboard a car driven by an unknown driver.
The victim remembered either 631 or 731 as the last three digits of the suspects’ get-away vehicle.
Tarkong said police responded to a reported robbery at Tank Beach at 3:38pm.
Police investigation showed that the victim and her family went to Tank Beach for sightseeing at 2:30pm.
As the victim was walking back to their car rental, she noticed a white car parked next to their vehicle.
The suspect exited the right rear passenger door of the white car and grabbed the victim’s purse. During the struggle, the victim fell to the ground.
The suspect dragged the victim, who was still clinging to her purse. As a result, she was injured on the left knee and left hand.
The suspect went back inside the white car, which then sped off.
Tarkong said the Crime Stoppers and the Department of Public Safety are seeking the public’s help for information about the suspects.
“Crime Stoppers pays up to $1,000 for any information leading to an arrest,” said Tarkong as he urged anyone having information about this robbery to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 234-7272.
Last year, at least seven rental cars belonging to QQ Car Rental were reportedly burglarized at Tank Beach. No one was arrested yet from any of those incidents.
