Woman pleads not guilty to charge she made false statements to USCIS
Jonie Esther Babauta Uddin has entered a not guilty plea to the charge that she made fraudulent statements to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Uddin, through court-appointed counsel Mark Hanson, waived the formal advisement of her constitutional rights and the reading of the charge against her.
U.S. District Court for the NMI Magistrate Judge Heather L. Kennedy set the jury trial for March 22, 2016.
Assistant U.S. attorney Russell Lorfing appeared for the government.
The indictment charged Uddin with one count of false statement.
According to the indictment, Uddin made the false, fictitious, and fraudulent statements and representations to USCIS on Nov. 18, 2011.
In a form I-130, Jonie Uddin allegedly represented that she lived in Chalan Piao with Tamiz Uddin, which she knew such representations were false in that she did not live in Chalan Piao and had never lived with Tamiz Uddin.
Form I-130 refers to a U.S. citizen’s petition for an alien relative.
Additionally, in the form G-325 (biographic information), the defendant again allegedly represented that she lived in Chalan Piao.
A separate indictment was recently filed against Tamiz Uddin charging him with one count of false statement.
According to the indictment, Tamiz Uddin made false, fictitious, and fraudulent statements and representations to USCIS on Aug. 15, 2013.
In an interview with an USCIS employee, Tamiz Uddin allegedly represented that he lived with Jonie Uddin, which he knew such representation was false and fraudulent in that he did not lived with Jonie Uddin.
