Instagram account ‘exposes’ graphic selfies of residents

An Instagram account purportedly seeking to “expose” graphic photos of island residents hit the rounds of Facebook and Twitter yesterday afternoon, but appeared to be taken down after those concerned reported the account to website management.

The veracity of the nine photos—mostly female with one male—could not be immediately confirmed, but the account, titled “DirtySaipanSluts” boasted at times in capslock and exclamation what appeared to be the names of the individuals in the photos. The account, also titled “Saipan Exposed,” gained some 200 followers before 4pm yesterday, and appeared to be taken down around that time.

Following a tip from someone who knows one of the people in the photos, Saipan Tribune reached out to the said individual reportedly in the photo but could not verify the report as of press time.

In what appeared to be obtained “selfies,” some of the photos displayed full-frontal shots of these women and man. Another account titled “Bringthesluts670” was also discovered yesterday but without any posts.

Maria Dizon, who posted about the account on her Facebook page and called on people to report the account yesterday, noted that accounts like these would be shamelessly directed mostly toward women.

“People who make social media accounts like this probably don’t know about the severity of their posts,” she told Saipan Tribune. “ ‘Simple’ things like these hate accounts can lead to depression, suicide, and self-harm.” She urged anyone that encounters an account like this to report and block it as soon as possible.
