Best Sunshine International, Ltd. majority shareholder Margaret Cui Lijie took part in the company’s recent cleanup and tree-planting activity at the Dandan Homestead Children’s Park.
The activity is part of BSI’s corporate social responsibility program through its “Village Pride Project.”
The project, among others, encourages the continued protection of the environment and building community partnership.
“The beautiful islands of the CNMI have long ago captured my heart. I vividly recall how mesmerized I felt when I arrived here during my first visit many years ago,” Cui recalled, as she expressed her deep gratitude to the people of the CNMI for their “warmth, care and kindness.”
Cui is the majority stockholder of Imperial Pacific International, Best Sunshine’s parent company, which has been awarded an exclusive resort developer license by the CNMI government in 2014.
Her participation in the “Village Pride Project” mirrors the company’s commitment to developing a $7.1-billion integrated resort on Saipan.
“I have been dreaming about one day developing a comprehensive, family-oriented luxury resort in a pristine natural environment, where we can satisfy the needs of our customers, who are among Asia’s highest net worth individuals,” she said.
Both economic watchers and CNMI leaders acknowledged that Best Sunshine’s integrated resort investment is expected to usher economic revival, primarily upping the lagging tourism market.
The five-phase development plan calls for over 4,000 rooms, 300 villas, a Chamorro and Carolinian cultural center, and the world’s largest water park.
This is going to be the largest and most expensive infrastructure development undertaking this side of the world— “a dream project which all our children can inherit and enjoy for generations to come,” Cui said.
“Our specialists scoured many of the beautiful islands in the Pacific and Indian oceans. But when the opportunity arose to participate in the development of a grand signature project in Saipan, it was a euphoric moment for me,” she said.
It was through perseverance, grit, and hard work that she owes what she had achieved today.
“I fully understand that the economy of CNMI is at a critical stage. I sincerely hope that through my effort and with the support of the people, we can grow the economy with new investment, create ample job opportunities, improve the environment and raise the living standards for everyone,” Cui said.
She reaffirmed her commitment to “high business ethics, compliance, respect and preserving the environment and the local culture.”
“It is now our turn to repay these blessings through this exciting opportunity to invest in your beautiful islands,” added Cui. “We will strive to turn the CNMI into an envy of the world as a tourism destination.”
Cui’s love affair with the islands mirrors her beginnings. Hailing from Hong Kong, she grew up appreciating the simple things in life.
“Our dear parents were loving and caring but firm at the same time. We were taught respect for our elders, the environment and cultural values of our close knit community.” (BSI)
