Crazy 8 captain Rey Pinangay came away as the most decorated player of the Saipan Billiards Association’s 2012 Winter/Summer Budweiser Open 8-Ball League which had its awards banquet last Sunday in Charley’s Cabaret at the Pacific Islands Club.
After his team finished fourth place among eight other Obyan Division teams during the regular season, Pinangay led the Jonny’s Bar & Grill-sponsored squad to a 9-7 postseason Budweiser Cup victory over sixth-ranked Fotten Palau at Joe’s Steakhouse last June 5.
Other Crazy 8 members include Don Antonio, Frankie Blas, Warlee Ellama, Greg Guerrero, and Zaldy Quebral.
In addition to winning the third runner-up and Bud Cup team trophies, Pinangay was again called back up to the stage to accept three individual awards.
He along with Team SCS’ Erwin Gomez shared Run the Rack honors with three apiece. Pinangay along with Andrew Sablan and Quintin Ngirarios also won trophies for each sinking the 8-Ball on Break one time this season and when it was all said and done, he was selected as the most valuable player of the division for his 19 wins for the year.
The 19th Hole Bar’s Titans won first place during the season and Saipan Computer Services’ Team SCS received both the runner-up and team sportsmanship awards. The Titans consist of captain Rose Phillips with Rodel Dela Cruz, Rick Elefante, Oscar Sablan, Rick Rengiil, and Norman Tenorio.
19th Hole’s Ken Phillips of Poksu also won the most inspired player award for his 24 total assists, while Poseidon Bar & Grill’s Yang Ku finished as the second runner-up team.
In addition, Jonny’s IT&E Voyagers clinched back-to-back regular season titles over four other Agingan Division teams this year. However, sister-team IT&E Incredibles went home with the Bud Cup trophy.
