23 Korean students on island for month-long English camp
Over 20 South Korean students are on island to participate in the month-long Costa World Tour English Camp.
The students, who arrived late last December, met with Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang yesterday to welcome them.
“Hopefully you go back to Korea with very good English,” Apatang said.
He also urged them to come back to Saipan and bring with them their families as well as give them suggestions on how to improve the island.
With the opportunity to meet with the mayor, the young students asked several questions to Apatang showing their curiosity with the CNMI’s cultures and traditions as well as lifestyle and economy. They also asked several questions about the mayor himself.
The 23 students are third to ninth graders and came from various schools in South Korea. They will be on island until Jan. 28.
As part of the program, the students will attend classes at Eucon International School.
Aside from learning English, the students also conduct community service activities and learn about the island’s culture.
On Jan. 16, the students will be joining a cleanup with the Mayor’s Office on their adopted highway area from Hopwood Jr. High School in San Antonio going south to Han Nam area in Koblerville.
Last year, 18 students participated in the same program, according to Costa World Tour president Yeon Tae Choi.
