Cops recover stolen purse
A Japanese couple walked into the DPS Koban Bike Patrol substation in Garapan on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at about 6:30pm, to report a theft incident. One of the victims, a Japanese female age 47, was in tears. The couple was scheduled to depart Saipan at midnight. The victim’s purse containing the couple’s passports and money was taken at Micro Beach.
Bike Patrol supervisor Sandy Hambros and Nick Rabauliman immediately went to Micro Beach to search for the purse while police officer Jason Bahillo took care of the victims’ police report. Police learned the couple was at the beach taking pictures of the sunset and had left their bag on the sand for about five minutes.
Hambros and Rabauliman recovered the purse by the Micro Beach parking lot near the pavilion. The victims’ passports were still in the purse but $200 cash was missing.
DPS Commissioner Robert A. Guerrero would like to remind the public and tourists to be aware of their surroundings and not leave valuable items unattended. Guerrero lauded the police officers and detectives involved in aiding the victims and reaffirmed his support for the Tourist Oriented Policing Section program in keeping the community and tourists safe.
