Emon Lodge caging eyes Jan. 3 opening; meeting tomorrow
Organizers of the 2015 Emon Lodge No. 179 Brotherhood Basketball League are hoping to kick off action at the Civic Center Basketball Court this Sunday.
Bong Malasarte, who is one of the league’s coordinators, said they are done cleaning and painting the Susupe court and will put up the boards and the rings this week in time for Sunday’s opener. He added that there were delays in the kick-off because of the weather and they were scheduled to fix the rings earlier, but one of them was stolen last week so they had to find a replacement.
Malasarte also said that a meeting this Wednesday will take place to finalize details of the opening. Representatives of participating teams are asked to attend the 5:30pm meeting at the Civic Center court.
So far, eight teams have showed interest in the open division of the Emon Lodge caging, according to Pepe Crisostomo, who is also one of the coordinators of the competition. Crisostomo said teams led by Marlon Sison, Cesar Barrozo, and Marvin Deocares are entered in the league, along with Shirley’s Coffee Shop, Joeten, and GMI Market. Armatech may also field a team and Crisostomo is awaiting confirmation from one more squad.
Games in the Emon Lodge caging will be played every Sunday for now. Two matches each in the morning and afternoon will be played, but organizers have plans to fix the lighting at the court to hold evening games.
