Four former Saipan Little League Baseball Inc. officials will be assisting CNMI district administrator James Ada in running the affairs of the youth baseball program in the Commonwealth.
Ada, who also works as Department of Public Works secretary, appointed ex-SLLBI president Mike Borja, vice president Annie Flores, secretary Piding Tenorio, and volunteer statistician Remy Celis as his assistant DAs.
He presented the four SLL veterans to the media last Thursday at his DPW office in San Jose. “I’ve appointed them to help me in the operations and other auxiliary matters in running the affairs under the DA’s office. We will work in establishing contact with the board of the Saipan, Tinian, and Rota Little Leagues,” Ada said.
“We plan to sit down with the local board. Ask them what kind of assistance they need and what can we give to them.”
Another project for Ada and his assistant DAs is to help prepare Tinian in hosting next year’s CNMI district tournament.
“Tinian will host the district tournament and Mayor [Joey Patrick] San Nicolas knows that we should start selection of the board. Their field also needs some repairs after it got damaged by Typhoon Champi,” said Ada.
The DA’s office is also tasked to explain to the Saipan, Tinian, and Rota Little League boards of the new age alignment that is set to take effect in 2018.
The DA rules committee approved the changes and the Little League headquarters ratified the recommendation made by the DAs in their last congress this year.
Ada said from May 31, the age alignment is moved back to Aug. 31 to make the Little League a true baseball program for U12 players and putting 13-year-olds to another age group.
The Majors will have 9-12 year-olds, the 50-70 is between 11-13, the 13-14 age group are for the Juniors, 15-16 are Seniors, and the Big League are for 16 to 18 years old.
The DAs also voted that all rule changes will be made every four years instead of three.
