AMP Visitor Center closed for holidays

In observance of the upcoming holiday, the American Memorial Park Visitor Center will close on Christmas eve, Dec. 24, 2015, at 1pm and will remain closed on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2015. The American Memorial Park Visitor Center will resume normal hours of operation from 9am to 5pm on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015. (NPS)

NMC sets winter break

The Northern Marianas College will be closed from Friday, Dec. 25, 2015, through Friday, Jan. 1, 2016. The college will resume normal operations on Monday, Jan. 4, 2016.

Along with other public agencies, the college will also be closed from 12pm to 5pm on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, as employees have been granted administrative leave. For any campus emergency, contact NMC Security at 237-6800.

Information about NMC’s spring 2016 semester can be found on the college website, www.marianas.edu. Ongoing NMC students can log in to their Proa Portal accounts to register for classes. (NMC)

3 Saipan beaches red-flagged

The Division of Environmental Quality has red-flagged the Palms Resort beach, Tanapag Meeting Hall, and DPW Channel Bridge and is advising the public not to fish or swim within 300 feet of these locations for the next 48 hours or until otherwise notified. Samples collected from these locations contained excessive concentrations of fecal indicator bacteria (enterococci) that exceeded the CNMI Marine Water Quality Standards. These bacteria can indicate the presence of human and animal waste in the water. For more information, contact DEQ at 664-8500. (DEQ)

Marpi landfill, transfer station operation hours

The Lower Base Transfer Station and the Marpi Landfill facilities will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, at 11:30am, and on Friday, Dec. 25, 2015, both facilities will close all day in observance of Christmas Day. Regular operations will resume on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015. (PR)

Nominations open for Employer Support Freedom Award

The deadline to submit nominations for the 2016 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award is on Dec. 31, 2015. Presented by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense office, the Freedom Award is the nation’s highest honor presented to civilian employers for exceptional support of their National Guard and Reserve employees. ESGR encourages Guardsmen, Reservists, or family members acting on their behalf, to submit nominations at www.FreedomAward.mil. The Freedom Award ceremony is held in Washington, D.C., for up to 15 deserving employers each year in August. (ESGR)
