Marpi landfill, transfer station operation hours
The Lower Base Transfer Station and the Marpi Landfill facilities will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, at 11:30am, and on Friday, Dec. 25, 2015, both facilities will close all day in observance of Christmas Day. Regular operations will resume on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015. (PR)

FEMA releases $1.1 million to GPA
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo (D-GU) announced yesterday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has provided the Guam Power Authority with $1,181,440.67 in federal grant assistance. These funds will be used to offset power restoration projects conducted by GPA as a result of Typhoon Dolphin back in May. The federal funds constitute 75% of the total cost of the projects and are authorized by Section 406 of the Stafford Act.
“FEMA continues to provide assistance to our community to fully recover from Typhoon Dolphin. This grant will assist GPA with the power restoration projects they undertook following the typhoon. I appreciate FEMA’s commitment to ensure that our island is restored to normal and that our local government has the federal support that it needs to address these issues.” (PR)

Nominations open for Employer Support Freedom Award
The deadline to submit nominations for the 2016 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award is on Dec. 31, 2015. Presented by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense office, the Freedom Award is the nation’s highest honor presented to civilian employers for exceptional support of their National Guard and Reserve employees. ESGR encourages Guardsmen, Reservists, or family members acting on their behalf, to submit nominations at www.FreedomAward.mil. The Freedom Award ceremony is held in Washington, D.C., for up to 15 deserving employers each year in August. (ESGR)

Air Force training at FDM
The U.S. Air Force will conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla today, Dec. 23, 2015, from 10am to 4:30pm. The general public, especially fishermen, commercial pilots and marine tour operators are advised to stay clear of the area during the dates and times indicated. The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be on a 10-nautical mile radius on all quadrants. (PR)
