Seven-hour power service outage on Saturday

As crews continue mounting transformers and reconnecting customers across Saipan, the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. is continuing with the next phase of the restoration by addressing portions of Saipan’s power transmission and distribution system less seriously damaged by Typhoon Soudelor.

On Saturday, Dec. 19, CUC line crews will temporarily interrupt power service along the Kiya 4 feeder (including Susupe and Chalan Kanoa) starting at 1pm to replace one deteriorated primary power poles and hardware, and re-sag primary conductors. Work on the repairs is expected to take up to seven hours to complete, at which time power will be restored to the area.

The temporary power outage will also impact water service as all wells in the affected area will be offline. As a result, CUC water customers in the affected area will experience limited water service until the power is restored.

CUC is conducting this series of temporary power interruptions to allow linemen safe access to the primary lines for the replacement of essential power distribution materials, to maximize resources and accomplish restoration goals as quickly as possible.
